Greetings and blessing,

I am pleased to learn that your situation is improving. Hashem will surely grant you a speedy recovery (refuah sheleimah*).

You sent me word yesterday, through your wife, the Rebbetzin*, that you have problems with sleep. Therefore do not dwell on it and do not be distressed by it, since you are following the doctor's instructions in this matter.

It would be good for there to be a kosher mezuzah* near your bed, which need not necessarily be on the door. Obviously, if necessary, it should be placed in two cases.

I know how much you appreciate the words of our master, and I will therefore convey to you what I heard from the Frierdiker Rebbe*. Several masters of Chassidus*—and I am almost certain that he mentioned by name the Rebbe Maharash*—would place on their table a sheet of paper on which was inscribed: "Shivisi Hashem l'negdi tamid*" ("I place Hashem before me always"). You have surely noticed that on the work and study table of the Frierdiker Rebbe there was a mezuzah.

Maseches Keilim, chapter 17, mishnah 16[1], indicates that the elders carried a mezuzah in their walking staff. You will consult what the Tosafos Yom Tov* says about this.

If you have neighbors in the room, it would be good to inquire about their practice of Torah and mitzvos*, as well as their connection to Chassidus.

שמח אני להוודע אשר מצבו הולך וטוב, והשי"ת ישלח לו בטח רפואה בקרוב.

ובמענה על הודעתו אתמול על ידי זוגתו הרבנית תחי', כי השינה אצלו אינה כדבעי, הנה יסיח דעת מזה לגמרי ואל יחוש לזה, כיון שבטח ממלא הוראות הרופא בזה.

ומהנכון אשר תהי' בסמוך למטתו מזוזה כשרה (לאו דוקא על מזוזת הפתח) כמובן אם נצרך - כלי בתוך כלי וכיו"ב.

ובידעי חביבותי' לדברי הרב, אזכיר מה ששמעתי מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר אשר אצל כמה מהנשיאים (כמדומה קרוב לודאי, שפרט בשם כ"ק אדמו"ר מהר"ש) היתה מונחת על שולחנו פתקא ועלי' כתוב: שויתי הוי' לנגדי תמיד. ובטח שם כת"ר שי' לבו לזה שעל שלחן הכתיבה והלימוד של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר היתה מונחת מזוזה.
