I greet and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of this past Monday[1]. I read it with immense pain, as well as with astonishment. You tell me, indeed, that you have abandoned your beautiful and pleasant lot, the education based on the foundational values of the children of Israel, of whom every Jew it is said: "You are children of the Eternal your Hashem"[2], yet "they exchanged it..."

May Hashem therefore, from the source of mercy and goodness, arouse a heavenly spirit[3] so that one may recognize the truth, even though we live in a world of falsehood. For the Torah* is immutable[4], in every place and at every time, and the verse clearly affirms[5]: "The Eternal is eternal Truth." As for the advances of the evil inclination[6], our Sages say that an antidote has been created for this purpose, and they declare: "If you encounter this wayward one, drag him to the house of study."

We are in auspicious days, those of Nissan*. Indeed, despite the situation of the children of Israel, "the people fled"[7], without prior calculations, without objection and without question. And "if they had asked Pharaoh to release them, he would never have been brought to do so, but...", as chapter 31 of the Tanya* explains, which concludes: "This shall be my objective throughout my entire life..."[8]. One should consult this text. And everything that has just been said must be interpreted in the literal sense, for "would one diminish the power of Hashem?"[9]. במענה למכתבו מיום השני.

בצער רב וגם בתמהון קראתי במכתבו אשר עזב גורלו הטוב והיפה חינוך על טהרת הקדש של בני ישראל, אשר על כל אחד מהם נאמר, בנים אתם לה' אלקיכם, והחליפו על וכו'.

ויהי רצון ממקור הרחמים והחסדים אשר יערה עליו רוח ממרום להכיר את האמת, אף שחיים אנו בעלמא דשיקרא שהרי התורה נצחית היא ובכל מקום ובכל זמן, ומקרא מלא דבר הכתוב , אמת ה' לעולם, ולפיתויי היצר, הרי אמרו חכמינו ז"ל שנברא לו תבלין, ואמרו אם פגע בך מנוול זה משכהו לבית המדרש.

והרי נמצאים אנו בימי סגולה, ימי ניסן, אשר למרות מצב בני ישראל אז, הרי ברח העם מבלי חשבונות וטענות ומענות, וכי אלו אמרו לפרעה לשלחם חפשי לעולם לא הי' מוכרח לשלחם אלא כו' (תניא פל"א. ומסיים וחותם) זאת תהי' כל מגמתי כל ימי חלדי כו'. עיי"ש.
