Igrot Kodesh · Letter 913 — Family & Marriage

Volume 4 · Letter 148

By the grace of Hashem,

5 Adar Rishon 5711,

Brooklyn,

Greetings and blessing,

In reply to your letter, in which you request a blessing for your son who is in the army.

I would ask you to write to him and urge him to scrupulously observe the mitzvah* of tefillin*, putting them on every day. You will also send him the enclosed message from the Frierdiker Rebbe*. You will also indicate to me the name of his mother, and Hashem will protect him so that he returns home safe and sound.

I would also like to know whether there are public shiurim* in your shul*, a daily minyan*, and whether Tehillim* is recited every morning after davening*.

You will find enclosed a receipt for your contribution to the office of Pe'ulos Chesed* ("discreet acts of kindness"), a fund founded by my father-in-law that aids those who are embarrassed to publicly resort to tzedakah*.

The work in North Africa has begun, in accordance with the instructions the Frierdiker Rebbe gave us before his passing. There is already there a senior yeshiva*, an elementary yeshiva, a teachers' seminary, Talmud Torahs* for boys, schools for girls, and evening classes.

This work has just begun, and we need significant sums to continue it. Hashem will grant us success.

With my blessing, and greetings to the members of your community,
