Ashkenazi[1], Gur Aryeh[2], Haskind[3],

I was horrified today upon receiving your letter[4] insinuating that I have agreed to receive…[5] and that you immediately committed yourselves…[6]. You will therefore transfer everything that has been collected under this heading to the Chabad institutions of the Holy Land. And those who truly wish to strengthen their attachment to our masters and leaders will devote themselves to the dissemination of the sources[7], with alacrity, as well as to the strengthening of these institutions. Indeed, "it is not with money that you shall be redeemed"[8]. Awaiting your acknowledgment of receipt of this telegram, I conclude by sending you my blessing for a deep service of Hashem, as well as to receive the Torah with joy and in depth.

Until then, this sum was transmitted to the widow of the Rebbe Rayatz, who distributed it among family members according to her own decision. At the time, the Chassid Rav Ben Tzion Shem Tov had visited the Holy Land and invited the Chassidim there to contribute to the Maamad by sending it directly to the Rebbe. This was a proposal he made on his own initiative, but some had thought the initiative was the Rebbe's own.

וימסרו כל הנגבה על זה למוסדות החבדיים שבאה"ק.

וכל הרוצים באמת לחזק את התקשרותם לרבותינו נשיאינו יתעסקו בהפצת המעיינות במרץ ובביסוס מוסדותיהם, ולא בכסף תגאלו.

המחכה לאישור קבלת המברק וחותם בברכה לעבודה פנימית ולקבלת התורה בשמחה ובפנימיות.

הסכמתי לקבל : מעות מעמד. כי בד"כ הי' אז הסדר שמעות מעמד בית הרב הי' הרבי מוסר לידי הרבנית הזקנה, והיא היתה מחלקת אותן לפי ראות עינה לבני משפחת בית הרב. ובאותה תקופה התוועד השד"ר ר' בן ציון שם-טוב בארה"ק, ועורר את אנ"ש לשלוח מעמד - באופן אישי אל הרבי. והי' רושם כאילו כל ההצעה הזאת היא בהסכמתו של הרבי.
