[Eve of Shavuot 5726]

According to what you write[1], your son has not succeeded in his studies at the Yeshiva*[2]. It would therefore be good for him to learn a trade, a vocation, if possible within a vocational school where Torah* is also studied[3]. It is clear that there is absolutely no reason to go to a public school where one mingles with non-Jews, in addition to the mixing of boys and girls. If you find the equivalent of this in Toronto, or even in New York, that would be preferable to traveling a great distance[4]. That way, you will be able to see him often and advise him so that he adjusts more easily. If this is not the case, he will go to the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt. You will check with Hefer[5] whether he is able to follow the program of Kfar Chabad, in which Chassidut* is also studied, or whether another religious vocational school[6] in the Holy Land should be chosen.

[ערב חג השבועות, תשכ"ו]

ע"פ כתבו שבלימוד בישיבה לא הצליח בנו שי' - מובן שכדאי שילמוד מקצוע (מלאכה) ומה טוב בביסל"מ - שבו לומדים תורה [לימוד בבי"ס עממי - מובן שאין זה ענין כלל, כיון ששם מעורבים עם נכרים וכו', נוסף - על התערובת דנערים ונערות].

באם נמצא כהנ"ל בטורונטו ועכ"פ בנ.י. - טוב יותר מאשר בריחוק מקום גדול - כדי שיראוהו לעתים קרובות ויוכלו לייעצו איך להסתגל בקל יותר וכיו"ב.

באם אין נמצא - אזי באהקת"ו. ויבררו אצל חפר שי' - האם התכנית בכחב"ד לפי כחו (שלומדים גם חסידות) או בביסל"מ דתי אחר באה"ק.
