To the students of the Lubavitch seminary in Casablanca,
may Hashem grant you long life,

I bless and greet you,

I reply to your letter of 15 Sivan[1], concerning your examinations[2]. In accordance with your request, I will mention your names so that the wishes of your heart be fulfilled, for good and for blessing — that you organize yourselves as befits you, that you may henceforth redouble your steadfastness and self-sacrifice for the sacred studies that lead to action[3], that you conduct yourselves properly with the fear of Hashem, as befits daughters of Israel, descendants of our mothers Sarah, Rivkah, Rachel, and Leah.

The teaching of the Baal Shem Tov* is well known[4]: one must draw a lesson, proper conduct in the service of Hashem, blessed be He, from every thing. This means that every Jewish man and woman, when they must undergo an examination in any domain, should first and foremost reflect and examine their own situation in all that pertains to holiness, Torah conduct, and Mitzvot. Indeed, in these domains, a person is examined each day. According to the words of the Admor HaZaken, author of the Tanya, at the beginning of his chapter 41 — which should be consulted — "behold, Hashem stands before him, the entire earth is filled with His glory, He observes and examines[5] his innards and his heart to see if he serves Him as befits." במענה למכתבן מיום ט"ו בסיון, בקשר עם הבחינות, הנה כבקשתן אזכירן למילוי משאלות לבבן לטובה ולברכה ולהסתדרות נכונה שמכאן ולהבא תוכלנה להוסיף בהתמדה והתמסרות (ללימודי קדש, לימוד המביא לידי מעשה) להנהגה טובה ביראת שמים, כיאות לבנות ישראל, בנות אמותינו שרה רבקה רחל ולאה.

ידוע מאמר רבינו הבעל-שם-טוב זי"ע אשר מכל ענין צריך ללמוד (הנהגה טובה) בעבודת השם יתברך ויתעלה. ומכאן הוראה, לכל איש ואשה הישראליים, שאם יש בחינה באיזה ענין, הרי לכל לראש צריך להתבונן ולעשות בחינה עצמית בעניני קדושה, היינו בהנהגה בתורה ומצוה, כי באלה כל אדם נבחן בכל יום, ובלשון רבינו הזקן בעל התניא: "והנה ה' נצב עליו ומלא כל הארץ כבודו ומביט עליו ובוחן כליות ולב אם עובדו כראוי" (ריש פרק מ"א, עיי"ש).
