I am replying to your letter of the 23rd of this month of Menachem Av, in which you request my blessing. At a propitious moment, it will be read near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us. With my blessing,

N.B.: Regarding the influence one exerts on children, one can verify in practice that, very often[1], it is easier to do so through friends rather than directly, including with those who are closest. For this purpose, these friends should address them once and then a second time, with words that come from the heart[2], without anyone knowing that the initiative and the intervention in this matter are coming from you. Another point, which is essential: if at all times we have been asked[3] to strive for elevation in the domain of holiness, how much more is this the case when one is in need of a particular blessing, especially in a matter as decisive as that which concerns your son.

בנוגע להשפעה על בנים. - רואים במוחש שלפעמים רבות יכולים להשפיע ע"י ידידים יותר מאשר השפעה ישירה גם מהקרובים ביותר, ובלבד שידברו בזה פעם ושתים ויותר ובדברים היוצאים מן הלב, ושלא יהי' ניכר שממנו באה התעוררותם ופעולתם בזה.

וכן (וזה עיקר), שאם בכל הזמנים נצטוינו להעלות בקדש, עאכו"כ כשזקוקים לברכה מיוחדת ובפרט בענין כה גדול הערך בהנוגע לבן, וק"ל.
