By the grace of Hashem,

I greet you and bless you,

You informed me that you had a daughter — Mazal Tov*![1] May Hashem bring about that you raise her, together with your wife, to Torah*, to the wedding canopy and to good deeds, in abundance. It is known that, as Rabbi Rashab*[2] reported, our custom is to wish, at the birth of a daughter as well, that she be raised "to Torah*,[3] to the wedding canopy and to good deeds," based on the following teaching of our Sages in tractate Berakhot* 17a: "What is the merit of women? They bring their children to school...[4] they enable...[5] they wait...[6]" With my blessing of Mazal Tov*,

I have already written to you that daily study of the Tanya* is necessary — naturally without taking a vow. This is connected to the fact that you had asked me for a blessing at the time, and your name was mentioned near the tomb of my father-in-law, the Rabbi*, may his merit protect us. Thus, our Sages say[7] that "he[8] bowed near the tomb of the Patriarchs." In this way, one constitutes a channel and a receptacle for the blessing, and this allows it to be linked especially to the portion of Torah studied by the one seeking the blessing. May Hashem bring about that at least henceforth you maintain the three studies of the Chumash*, Tehillim* and Tanya*, without taking a vow.

הנה יה"ר מהשי"ת שיגדלה ביחד עם זוג' תי' לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים מתוך הרחבה.

- ידוע מכ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) נ"ע, אשר מנהגנו הוא לאמר גם בלידת בת לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים, ע"פ מרז"ל (ברכות יז, א) נשים במאי זכיין באקרוי' כו' באתנוי' כו' ונטרין כו'.

כתבי אליו מכבר אודות שיעור בכל יום בתניא (בל"נ, כמובן) - שייך וקשור לבקשתו אז ברכה והזכירוהו על ציון כ"ק [מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע] (ע"ד מחז"ל השתטח על קבר אבות כו'), ולצנור וכלי לברכה שייכות מיוחדת לחלק התורה בה עמל במיוחד המברך וכו'. וק"ל.
