By the grace of Hashem,

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, chosen of the people, who surpasses it, seeks the welfare of his people, has generous ways, is descended from an illustrious family,
Rav* Shneur Zalman[1] Shlita*,

I greet and bless you,

I have just learned, with pleasure, that your home was not touched by the bombardments[2]. I therefore have good hope that the same is true, all the more so, for yourself and for your entire family. Hashem will grant you long days and good years. You will have peace and wholeness. May Hashem bring it about that, in this matter, as for all our brothers, the children of Israel, to whom Hashem will also grant long days and good years, in all the places where they find themselves, the statement of our Sages, mentioned in tractate Bava Batra 12b, will be fulfilled, namely that when one begins to do good for someone, it is certain that one continues to do so thereafter, both materially and spiritually.

Obviously, this requires, above all, in accordance with the formulation of the verse[3], that: "Israel saw the great hand in what the Eternal has done[4] in Egypt," and in all its allies. He placed the many in the hands[5] of those who are few and who gave of themselves to "come to the aid of Israel against the enemy that attacks it"[6]. Consequently, it is absolutely certain that it will be as in the well-known announcement[5], that one will be able to "praise and give thanks to Your great Name," so that each one intensifies his commitment to the Torah* and the Mitzvot*, becoming conscious, in the depths of his heart, of the Source of miracles.

Indeed, these days are propitious for this, since it is the beginning of the third month[7], days of preparation and limitation for the giving and receiving of the Torah, Torah of life, a living Torah, in accordance with the saying we heard from my father-in-law, the Rabbi*[8]: "A Torah that engenders life," a life worthy of that name. It is in these days that the children of Israel were chosen to be "precious among all peoples, a nation of priests and a holy people"[9]. With my blessing, in the traditional formulation, in order to receive the Torah with joy and in depth, in good health, with my respects and consideration, looking forward to your good news,

ומובן ופשוט שכולל ולכל לראש, ובסגנון הכתוב, וירא ישראל את היד הגדולה אשר עשה הוי' במצרים והמסייעים שלהם, ומסר רבים ביד מעטים שהלכו במס"נ ל"עזרת ישראל מיד צר שבא עליהם", ואז הרי בודאי ובודאי שיהי' כסיום הודאה הידועה - (שכאו"א יוסיף בתומ"צ, ביחד עם ההודאה מקול"ע למקור הנסים), - להודות ולהלל לשמך הגדול.

והרי הימים ימי סגולה - ראש חודש השלישי, וימי הכנה והגבלה למתן תורה ולקבלת התורה, תורת חיים, א לעבעדיגע תורה, ובפתגם ששמענו מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר - א תורה וואס מאכט-אויף לעבן, חיים ראויים לשמם,

ימים בם נבחרו בנ"י להיות סגולה מכל העמים ממלכת כוהנים וגוי קדוש.
