Igrot Kodesh · Letter 9343
Volume 24 · Letter 313 · 16 Tamouz 5727 · To: distingué ‘Hassid qui craint D.ieu et se consacre
By the grace of Hashem,
16 Tammuz* 5727,
Brooklyn, New York,
To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and dedicates himself
to communal needs, the Rav Nissan HaCohen*,
I greet you and bless you,
I was pleased to receive news of you through the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and dedicates himself to communal needs, and I was glad to hear that you are well.
With regard to the matter you raise concerning the construction of the mikveh*: since you have indicated that there is presently a possibility of building it at no cost — thanks to the generosity of a benefactor — it is certainly appropriate to seize this opportunity without delay, so that the mikveh* will be built and operational as soon as possible. The observance of taharas hamishpacha* is one of the foundations of Jewish life, and its importance cannot be overstated.
With regard to the question of the location: as a general rule, the mikveh* should be situated as close as possible to the homes of those who will use it, so as to facilitate its use and remove any obstacle that might prevent people from going. Every difficulty along the way is liable to discourage those who are less scrupulous, and every facilitation brings benefit.
You certainly know the opinion of the Alter Rebbe* regarding the supreme importance of this mitzvah*. May you act with alacrity in this matter, and may Hashem grant you success.
With blessings,
