To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and
dedicates himself to communal needs, great scholar,

I greet you and bless you,

You informed me of the date of your daughter's wedding — may it be in a good and auspicious hour — and I bless you and your entire family, and first and foremost the bride and groom, that the wedding should take place with great joy and in a good hour, and that they should build a faithful home in Israel*, full of Torah* and Mitzvot*, with children and grandchildren who walk in the ways of Torah* and Mitzvot*.

I was pleased to hear of the qualities of the groom and of his family, and I bless him that he should grow in Torah* and in the fear of Heaven, and that he should be a source of nachas* to his parents and to all of Israel*.

Regarding the matter of the wedding itself: I recommend, in general, that a wedding should be celebrated with joy and gladness, but without extravagance. The simcha* of the occasion comes from the spiritual dimension — from the mitzvah*, from the prayers, from the holy words spoken — and not from external display. Whatever is saved in this way can be directed to tzedakah* and to worthy causes.

May Hashem bless the young couple with a long and happy life together, filled with Torah* and Mitzvot*, and may you, the father, see true nachas* from them and from all your children.
