Humility*(1) must itself be humble(2) — that is, based on knowledge(3) and not on feeling, for the latter runs counter to humility.

(2) This is the reply to a young person who asked about the nature of true humility in the service of Hashem.
(3) True humility is an intellectual recognition of one's actual standing before Hashem — not an emotional self-deprecation, which can itself become a form of self-absorption.
