Igrot Kodesh · Letter 9369

[At the conclusion of the holy Shabbat* Selichot* 5727]

This[1] is[2] horrifying*[3]!!! You will therefore speak once more with this man and you will surely find a way for him to do it as quickly as possible[3] — that is, these very days[3] — for this[4] was the subject of thirteen covenants[3], whereas all[3] the other Mitzvot* of the Torah correspond to only three[3] covenants. You will also consult the Rambam* who says, at the end of the laws of circumcision: "for Moses our teacher, may he rest in peace[3], even for a moment[3], although he was…"[5]. How much more so is this the case after the giving of the Torah*. If the difficulty lies in the cost, it will be covered by my secretariat[3].

Notes

(1) See Likutei Sichot*, vol. 17, p. 473.
(2) This is the response to someone who wrote to the Rebbe that he had convinced a man to undergo circumcision, since he had not yet done so. Nevertheless, the man had decided to postpone the date.
(3) The Rebbe underlines the words: "horrifying," "you will surely find a way for him to do it as quickly as possible," "days," "thirteen covenants," "all," "three," "may he rest in peace," "a moment," and "my secretariat."
(4) Circumcision.
(5) Despite all his greatness, Moses our teacher was placed in danger for having delayed the circumcision of his children, even for a moment.
