Volume 24 · Letter 342 · To: chapitre 143
There are[1] in this case several issues arising simultaneously[2]: the name of the grandmother, that of the mother, that of the fiancée, an older brother. You will therefore convene three Rabbis*, who will surely base their analysis on the responsa* of the Tzemach Tzedek*, section Even HaEzer*, chapter 143, according to which one should marry at eighteen years of age, in accordance with the Mishnah*[3]. And our Sages derive from the Mitzvah* of cleaving to Hashem that it is good to marry the daughter of a Torah scholar and to give one's own daughter in marriage to a Torah scholar, according to the laws of opinions*[4], chapter 6, paragraph 2, as it is said[5]: "You shall do according to what they instruct you." This will be at a good and fruitful moment.
