Volume 24 · Letter 344 · To: moyen de la Torah et des Mitsvot
The[1] mission entrusted[2] to a Jewish man or woman does not*[3] consist of rising up to create a tumult and make the worlds tremble. What is appropriate, in truth, is to build for Hashem a dwelling place below[4], with joy and enthusiasm, through Torah* and Mitzvot*, for "the act is essential"[5]. And if*[3] this is to have the effect of making the worlds tremble, they will then*[3] tremble. As for the mistress of the household[3] — the woman[6] — she must, above all, devote herself to what concerns the home*[3], in a pleasant and peaceful manner, for such*[3] are the ways of the Torah, as it is said[7]: "her ways… are peace." This must be done in a precisely orderly manner, in the most literal sense, as opposed to "the other side"[8] which is "without organization"[9]. This shall be the case here below, there*[3] where the Torah was given.

אין שליחותו של איש ואשה מבנ"י לעלות להרעיש ולזעזע את העולמות - כ"א לעשות לו ית' דירה בתחתונים (ומתוך שמחה וט"ל) - ע"י תומ"צ והמעשה הוא העיקר [ באם יוצרך לזה זעזוע עולמות במילא יזדעזעו], ובנוגע לעקרת הבית [האשה], לכל לראש בעניני הבית , ובדרכי נועם ושלום - שהם דרך התורה, וכמש"נ דרכי' גו' שלום - ובאופן מסודר (כפשוטו) דוקא, היפך הלעו"ז "ולא סדרים", וכ"ז למטה מעשרה טפחים שלשם נתנה התורה.
