By the grace of Hashem,

To Mr. Menachem HaLevi Blum,

I greet you and bless you,

I received your greetings with pleasure through Mrs. Rachel Dunin[1], and, in accordance with your request, I will mention your name[2] so that your heart's desire be fulfilled, for good and for blessing.

Your role and activities are connected with the inspection of girls' schools, each of them being a descendant of Sarah, of Rivka, of Rachel and of Leah. You are surely aware of the great merit accorded to you through this mission in the field of education. It is indeed well known, from the saying of the Baal Shem Tov*[3], that every Jewish man and every Jewish woman is dear and precious to our Father Who is in Heaven, even more than an only son born to his parents in their old age. One can deduce from this the considerable assistance that Hashem grants to whoever is active in the field of education, and in particular to one entrusted with inspecting several schools. Nevertheless, one must make full use of this assistance in order to improve education in all domains, particularly in what draws the heart of a student — boy or girl — closer to our Father, their Father, Who is in Heaven. By virtue of His great love for the people of Israel, "He chose us from among all nations" and this election expressed itself in the fact that "He gave us His Torah," according to the traditional formula[4].

Of course, He gave it to us in order to study it with eagerness and ardor, so that this study leads to action[5], to a daily mode of conduct based on the Torah, the Torah of life.

שלום וברכה!

בנועם קבלתי פ"ש מכ' על ידי מרת רחל תחי' דונין, ובהתאם לבקשתו אזכירו למילוי משאלות לבבו לטובה ולברכה.

כיון אשר משרתו ופעולותיו הן בפיקוח בתי ספר לבנות, אשר כל אחת מהן היא בת שרה רבקה רחל ולאה, בודאי מכיר גודל זכותו שזכה להיות מלאכתו בשטח החינוך, וכידוע פתגם הבעל שם טוב שכל אחד ואחת מבני ישראל יקר וחביב לאבינו שבשמים יותר מבן יחיד הנולד להוריו לעת זקנתם. שמזה מובן גודל הסיוע שמשפיעים מלמעלה לכל אחד השייך לעניני חינוך, ובפרט למי שיש לו פיקוח על כמה בתי ספר. אלא שיש לנצל סיוע זה במילואו להטבת החינוך בכל השטחים ובפרט בכל הענינים המקרבים לב התלמיד והתלמידה לאבינו אביהם שבשמים, אשר בגודל אהבתו לעם ישראל הרי – בנוסח המסורתי – בחר בנו מכל העמים (שהבטוי בבחירה זו הוא – ) ונתן לנו את תורתו –

וכמובן ופשוט על מנת ללמוד אותה בהתמדה ושקידה ובאופן שהלימוד מביא לידי מעשה בהנהגה יום-יומית על פי התורה תורת חיים.
