By the grace of Hashem,

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, chosen of the people, who surpasses them, seeks the good of his people, is of generous conduct, and is descended from an illustrious family — Rav Shneur Zalman*[1] Shlita*,

I greet you and bless you,

I join all those who wish you well on the occasion of your birthday, and I add to this a blessing that Hashem lengthen your days and years in a good and pleasant manner, in good health and with all blessings, material and spiritual. I was particularly pleased to learn that your birthday celebration will take place in the synagogue founded by the Tzemach Tzedek*[2], in the Old City of Jerusalem[3], in which all unite[4].

May Hashem therefore fulfill all the blessings you have received, all the more so since we are in the month of Kislev* — the month of success, of deliverance and of salvation of our people in general[5] and of the Chassidim* in particular[6] — precisely through joy, as it is said[7]: "He redeemed... in peace." With my consideration, my regards and my blessing that you give me good news of all that concerns the entirety of our people, the children of Israel, and of each person individually — who is, in himself, an entire world[8],

Postscript: For a certain reason, the sending of this letter was delayed, and I have just learned that you prayed and were called up to the Torah in the synagogue bearing the name of the Tzemach Tzedek*, that you commented on the verse[9]: "Save Your people and bless Your heritage. Tend to them and carry them forever." If our eyes have always awaited the salvation of Hashem, how much more is this so in our times.
