To the great Rav*, distinguished and pleasant Chassid* who fears Hashem,
of wide knowledge, filled with diligence, of numerous accomplishments,
Rav S.[1],

I greet you and bless you,

I am writing in reply to your letter of the Sunday of Parshat Vayeshev*[2], in which you ask me about the project of convening a "world council of synagogues" in our Holy Land*, may it be restored and rebuilt, in the coming weeks.

My position in this matter is very clear and I have already communicated it to several people who have asked me[3]. I am clearly[4] and forcefully opposed to this project and, if it is realized, which Hashem forbid, I consider that one should not participate in it.

My view is based on what I heard from my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, concerning the position of all the great figures of Israel, all the leaders of the previous generation, who opposed with all their strength such projects and anything resembling them. Now, if in the previous generation all the great figures of Israel expressed their disagreement, how much more must this be so in our orphaned generation, when "one may wonder with astonishment: does this era..."

It is clear to me that this change between the previous generation and ours, due to our many transgressions, makes such a project even more clearly inadmissible. You will understand what I mean. With my respects and blessing so that you may give me good news,

במענה למכתבו מיום א' פ' וישב, בו שואל דעתי בנוגע להתכנית לקרוא "ועידה עולמית מבתי כנסיות" באה"ק תובב"א בשבועות הקרובים,

דעתי ברורה בזה, כמו שעניתי מכבר לכמה אשר שאלוני בנידון האמור – ברורה ובכל תוקף נגד תכנית האמורה, ובאם ח"ו תבוא לפועל – נגד ההשתתפות בה.

ומיוסדת דעתי על מה ששמעתי מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר עמדת כל גדולי ישראל ומנהיגיו בדור הקודם – שהתנגדו בכל התוקף לתכניות כהאמורה או בדומה לה.

ואם בדור הקודם התנגדו לזה כל גדולי ישראל, על אחת כמה וכמה בדורנו זה דור יתום, אשר אכשר דרא (בתמי').

מובן ששמעתי טענת המחייבים אשר נשתנו העתים וכו', אבל כאמור, לדעתי ברור אשר השנוי, בעוה"ר, מדור הקודם לדורנו שולל עוד יותר ויותר תכנית האמורה, וד"ל.
