To the participants of the celebration marking the completion of the Torah*, on the Sunday of the approaching Torah portion of Va'era*, and at their head, Rav Yitzchak David Wein,
may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet and bless you,

I learned with pleasure that you are completing a Sefer Torah* and that you are organizing a joyous celebration on the occasion of this completion[1]. Regarding the writing of this Sefer Torah*, it will therefore be a conclusion, an end. Nevertheless, according to the well-known expression[2], "one always ensures that the beginning follows the end." One must therefore engage in study, begin it immediately, with increased vigor and determination, in accordance with the teaching of the Sages of the Torah*, who hold that this study must lead to action[3], that is, to the performance of Mitzvot* in the best possible way.

This reinforces the hope that each participant in this completion will intensify his Torah* study from this day forward, in this synagogue and house of study, by establishing a class there, dealing in particular with the Halachot* that must be put into practice daily. This study will also influence the conduct of all family members, of each person and all those close to them.

For it is through the study of Torah* and the performance of its Mitzvot* that one brings near and hastens the true and complete redemption through our righteous Mashiach*, as well as...

בנועם קבלתי הידיעה על דבר סיום הספר-תורה, ומקיימים לעשות שמחה "לגמרה של תורה".

ובודאי אף שבנוגע לכתיבת הספר יהי' סיום וגמר של תורה, הרי בלשון הידוע "מתכיפין התחלה להשלמה בתדירה" גו' שמתחילין תיכף ומיד בלימודה ביתר שאת וביתר עז, לימוד – כהוראת חכמי התורה – המביא לידי מעשה, קיום המצוות בהידור.

ומחזק זה התקווה אשר כל אחד ואחד מהמסיימים, מתחיל מיום זה יוסיף בלימוד התורה בבית הכנסת ובבית המדרש על ידי קביעת שיעור בלימוד התורה ולימוד הלכות הצריכות בחיי היום יום בפרט, לימוד שישפיע על הנהגת כל אחד ואחד גם בביתו, הוא ובני ביתו שיחיו.

והרי על ידי לימוד התורה וקיום מצוותי' מקרבים ומחישים גאולה האמיתית והשלימה על ידי משיח צדקנו, קיום היעוד בפרשת שבוע זה – ולקחתי אתכם לי לעם גו' והבאתי אתכם אל הארץ גו' ונתתי אותה לכם מורשה אני ה', אשר כימי צאתך מארץ מצרים אראנו נפלאות בגאולה הקרובה לבוא ע"י משיח צדקנו.
