To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, chosen of the people, who surpasses it, seeks the welfare of his people, has a generous conduct, and is descended from an illustrious family,
Rav Shneur Zalman[1] Shlita*,

I greet and bless you,

As the day of the Hillulah* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, approaches — on the eve of this Shabbat* — I am sending you, as is my custom, a few writings, in order to recall in particular that we had the merit of being together at a Chassidic* gathering of 19 Kislev*,[2] in the presence of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, singing together the melody of the Admor HaZaken*. This letter is indeed written between his Hillulah on 24 Tevet* and that of 10 Shevat*.

As my father-in-law, the Rebbe, wrote in his first letter[3] regarding the Hillulah of his own father — the shepherds of Israel do not abandon their flock. Until now he fulfilled his mission and continues to do so[4] above, serving his flock, within all of Israel. [The shepherd] cares for each one individually, both collectively and individually.

In this connection, I am enclosing what has just been published — the Tanya* translated into Italian,[6] the language of Rome, of which it is said[7] "one nation shall prevail over the other" — so that this [Torah*] shall go forth from that place as well.

שלום וברכה!

בהתקרב יום ההילולא כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בערש"ק הבע"ל. הנני, כדרכי, לשגר לכ' איזה דברים שבכתב ובפרט להזכיר מה שזכינו שנינו להיות בצוותא בהתועדות די"ט כסלו אצל כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר ולנגן ביחד ניגונו של רבינו הזקן, שמכתב זה נכתב בין יום ההילולא שלו כ"ד טבת והילולא דיו"ד שבט.

ועל פי מה שכתב כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר במכתבו הראשון בקשר עם יום ההילולא של אביו, שרועי ישראל לא יעזבו צאן מרעיתם ומה עד עתה עומד ומשמש אף עתה עומד ומשמש במרום, משמש את צאן מרעיתו בתוככי כל ישראל, הרי כלשון הידוע רצוא ושוב, ענין היחוד בזכרונו הוא רצוא עלי' והתיחדות בזכרונו של בעל ההילולא ועניניו ושוב והמשכה במעשה בפועל בעולמנו זה הגשמי והחומרי ללכת בדרך ישרה אשר הורנו בדרכיו ונלכה באורחותיו נס"ו (אגה"ק לרבנו הזקן להסתלקות אדמו"ר הרמ"מ מהורודוק, אגה"ק בתניא סי' זך).

ומענין לענין באותו ענין, הנני מצרף בזה מה שיצא לאור זה עתה ס' התניא בהעתקתו לשפה האיטלקית, שפת רומי אשר לאום מלאום יאמץ כשזה (רומי) נופל – תבנה ירושלים עיר קדשנו,

אחת הפעולות מהפצת המעיינות חוצה.
