To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,

I greet and bless you,

I hereby acknowledge receipt — with much delay, due to my many occupations — of your letter and the press clippings featuring your article on the Tefillin* campaign.[2] You no doubt know that this article appeared here in the Morgen Journal* and, it seems, also in a Jewish newspaper in Paris. This grants you additional merit, for there too your words have surely had their effect.

To our great sorrow, difficulties are encountered in everything concerning the dissemination of Judaism.[3] Therefore, every encouragement is precious, especially when it is disseminated in newspapers. It thereby reaches a circle of people that cannot be reached otherwise. One may therefore hope not only that the idea will be spread, but that it will also be applied concretely — which means, very simply, that one more Jew will put on Tefillin*, and that one who is already accustomed to wearing them will henceforth do so with greater enthusiasm, with fervor and discernment.

I am enclosing the booklet of 10 Shevat*, which appeared recently on the occasion of the Hillulah* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us. I am hopeful that it will interest you, knowing how closely you were bound to him, may Hashem grant you long life. With my respects and my blessing,

הנני לאשר בזה, אף כי באיחור זמן מרבוי הטרדות, קבלת מכתבו וגם קטעי העתון של מאמרו בקשר עם מבצע תפלין . ובודאי ידוע לכ' שמאמרו פורסם בה"מאָרגען זשורנאַל" כאן וכמדומה בעתון יהודי בפּאַריז, שזה נותן לו זכות נוספת שגם שם בודאי שדבריו פעלו פעולתם.

ואם בכל ענין של הפצת היהדות, שלמרבה הצער נתקל בקושיים, יקר כל ענין של עידוד, הרי בפרט כך בנוגע לעידוד המתפרסם בעתונות, שעל ידי כך מגיע לחוג אנשים שאי אפשר להגיע אליהם, ויש מקום לתקוה לא רק להפצת הענין אלא להביא למעשה בפועל, זאת אומרת פשוט שעוד יהודי יניח תפלין, ואפילו מי שרגיל להניח תפלין יניחם מעתה ביתר חיות ותבונה וכונה וכולי.

מוסג"פ קובץ יו"ד שבט שהוצאנו לאור לאחרונה בקשר עם יום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, שתקותי שיענין את כ', ובפרט בידעי היחס שהי' ביניהם, יבדלו מחיים לחיים.
