To the attention of the distinguished and pleasant Chassid* who fears Hashem, chosen of the people, surpassing it, seeking the good of his people, of generous conduct, from an illustrious family, Rav Shneur Zalman,[1] Shlita*,

I greet you and bless you,

In this month in which we have been commanded to multiply our joy,[2] I was particularly pleased to learn that an enlarged delegation of the Knesset* has appointed you as the sole candidate to retain your position and functions.[3]

I therefore express my sincere wishes that you may use, in good health, all the possibilities granted to you and at your disposal, for the benefit of all as well as for the individual, since a single person is an entire world.[4] You will therefore seek both material and spiritual good. Furthermore, according to the formulation of our masters and leaders,[5] you will place the spirit above matter, the moral above the concrete.

These days are auspicious, in which "for the Jews there was light, joy, gladness and honor"[6] and one adds, in the blessing of Havdalah*, expressing the separation between Israel and the nations: "May it be so for us!" — with all the explanations of our Sages[7] on this matter and in accordance with the simple meaning of this affirmation: may everything be luminous and joyful! May there once again be joy and honor! With my consideration, my respects and my blessing for a joyous Purim*,

שלום וברכה!

בחודש בו נצטווינו להרבות בשמחה, שמחתי במיוחד בהגיעתני הידיעה אשר משלחת מורחבת מ"הכנסת" קבעה את מר כמעומד יחידי להמשיך במשרתו ובתפקידו.

ואיחוליי לבביים אשר מתוך בריאות הנכונה ינצל מר את כל האפשריות הניתנות לו ועומדות לרשותו לטובת הכלל, ולטובת היחיד (שגם נפש אחת – עולם מלא הוא), טובתם בגו"ר, אלא – בסגנון רבותינו נשיאינו – בהגברת הרוח על הגשם והצורה על החומר.

והרי הימים ימי סגולה אשר ליהודים הייתה אורה ושמחה וששון ויקר – ומוסיפים בברכת הבדלה בין ישראל לעמים – כן תהי' לנו.

ככל דרשות חז"ל בזה וכפשוטו של מקרא:

ליכטיג און פרייד און נאָך אַמאָל פרייליך און כבוד.

בהוקרה ובכבוד ובברכת פורים שמח.
