To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and dedicates himself to communal needs, Rav Yechezkel,[1]

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letter, together with what was enclosed. I am compelled to share my reaction with you as it was, and I ask you to kindly excuse me for this. Upon receiving your letter, I was surprised by the way it is written and, even more, by what one understands between its lines, since you regard the agreement obtained as a great deliverance and salvation acquired on that day. Yet I observe that in the newspapers as well, such news is being disseminated in the name of Agudah* and, moreover, it is being highlighted. Surprise is thus added to my dismay, for even if it turns out that the renown of Agudah* is thereby enhanced, it is, of course, absolutely forbidden to adopt such a practice if it results in harm to the education of the sons and daughters of Israel.

Furthermore, one can genuinely question this enhanced renown, for what has been published has already been noted. It is therefore unnecessary to say more. Needless to say, upon learning of the reception given to the emissary from the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, who came to describe the situation as it is, as well as the reactions observed at Beckmann Street,[2] my surprise and pain were further increased.

May Hashem cause it to be — "in these days" as "at that time"[3] — so that "for the Jews there was light, joy, gladness and honor."[4] Indeed, "for the children of Israel there was light in their dwellings"[5] and in all their needs. With my blessing and respects,

שלום וברכה!

הנני לאשר קבלת מכתבו עם המצו"ב. ולאחר בקשת הסליחה, מוכרחני לכתוב תגובתי כפי שהיתה, אשר בקבלת מכתבו תמהתי על סגנונו ועוד יותר המשמע בין השטין, שכאילו ישועה גדולה ופורקן כהיום הזה כיוון שהושג הסכם וכולי.

ולאחרי שראיתי שגם במכ"ע מפרסמים ידיעות כאלו בשם האגודה ובהדגשה, נתוסף צער על התמהון, שאפילו את"ל שעי"ז יגדילו שם האגודה בודאי שאסור בהחלט לעשות זה על חשבון היזק לחינוך של בני ובנות ישראל.

ובפרט שההגדלה האמורה בספק גדול מוטלת, שהרי סוף סוף יתברר המצב ותוכן ההשגים האמורים, ומובן איך יתפרשו פרסומים הנ"ל וד"ל.

למותר להוסיף שכשקבלתי ידיעה ע"ד ה"קבלת פנים" והתגובות בבעקמאַן-סטריט מהשליח שבא מאה"ק ת"ו המתאר המצב לאמתתו, גדול התמהון והצער עוד יותר.

ויהי רצון אשר סו"ס יהי' בגלוי כאשר הי' בימים ההם בזמן הזה, אורה – זו תורה וכולי ואורה וגו' כפשוטו לבני ישראל בכל מושבותיהם ובפרט באה"ק ת"ו.

עכבתי משלוח המכתב לכמה ימים כיון שחכיתי לידיעות נוספות משם. ובעוה"ר ובצער רב אשרו הידיעות הנוספות ע"ד ה"השגים" ומצב האיום, בפרט נוסף שלעסקני האגודה באהקת"ו הודיעו המצב בכל פרטיו, שכמובן גם זה מצער שההודעה אליהם צריכה היתה לבוא על ידי אחרים, אף שלכאורה זה צריך הי' להיות מתפקידם הם ומתפקידם הראשי.

פשוט שאין בכל הכתוב כל רצון כלל וכלל לנהל מחלוקת עם מישהו או לזלזל בכבודו של מישהו, אלא שכולי האי ואולי יואיל לעתיד עכ"פ.
