By the grace of Hashem,

To the family of the late community leader,
praiseworthy and of many accomplishments,
who cherished the Torah* and honored the sages,
Mr. Yossef Berdugo[1], may he rest in peace,

I greet and bless you,

I learned, belatedly, of the passing of your dear father, who devoted himself to communal needs, accumulated many accomplishments and good qualities, was descended from a distinguished family — Mr. Yossef, may he rest in peace. I share in your sorrow and may Hashem, blessed be He, console you doubly.

I know your family tradition with regard to the strengthening of Judaism and its dissemination. I have good hope that the members of the family will not only maintain this ancestral tradition, but will even develop it. For it is well known how great is the satisfaction that the soul[2] derives from the Mitsvot* and good deeds performed by children and relatives who keep the way of Hashem and perpetuate the positive achievements of the father and husband, through daily conduct based on Torah* and Mitsvot*, by setting a good example to all those around, near and far.

It is regarding this that the following assurance[3] has been given to us: "When a person sanctifies himself a little below, he receives immense holiness from above." I convey my greetings and blessings to all the members of the family. May Hashem cause you to know no more sorrow in the future, and may your lot be only goodness and beneficence, a good that is visible and tangible.

שלום וברכה!

באיחור זמן נודעתי מפטירת אביהם היקר העוסק בצרכי ציבור, רב פעלים, בעל מדות, ענף עץ אבות כמר יוסף עליו השלום. והנני משתתף בצערם, והשם יתברך ויתעלה ינחמם בכפלים.

בידעי מסורת המשפחה בשטח החזקת היהדות והפצתה, תקותי חזקה שבני המשפחה שיחיו לא רק ימשיכו במסורת אבות זו אלא עוד יוסיפו בזה, שהרי ידוע גודל הנחת-רוח לנשמה מהמצות והמעשים טובים של הבנים והקרובים השומרים דרך ה' וממשיכים פעולותיו הטובות של האבא והבעל וכו', בהנהגה בחיי היום-יום על פי התורה והמצוה, להיות דוגמא חי' לכל הסביבה הקרובה והרחוקה.

ובכל כגון דא הובטחנו : אדם מקדש עצמו מעט למטה, מקדשין אותו הרבה מלמעלה.

בפ"ש וברכה לכל בני המשפחה שיחיו, ויהי רצון שמכאן ולהבא לא יוסיפו לדאבה עוד, ואך טוב וחסד יהי' מנת חלקם בטוב הנראה והנגלה.
