To the distinguished and agreeable Chassid*, chosen of the people,
who surpasses it, seeks the welfare of his people, has
generous conduct, is descended from a distinguished family,
the Rav Shneur Zalman[1] Shlita*,

I greet and bless you,

I am somewhat surprised not to have had any news from you for quite a long time. In the meantime, you have surely received all my letters and greetings, through the intermediary of those who have traveled.

In continuation of what I transmitted to you through travelers, and of the response you conveyed to me by the same channel, I received a visit last week from Mr. Ariel Sharon[2]. We conversed at length on this matter; we spoke for a relatively long time about the problem of the territories[3], even if this was not sufficient, given the importance of the issue.

In general, it is not easy to report such a lengthy discussion in writing. Moreover, on such subjects, oral communication is to be preferred over written. If you are interested in the substance of these remarks, you will surely find a way to have him repeat them to you himself.

I did not expressly ask Mr. Sharon to convey all this to you, as I do not know whether you wish to intervene and whether this interests you. I therefore did not mention your name during our discussion, in order to leave you completely free in this matter. With my respects and my blessing,

לפלא קצת שזה זמן רב לא שמעתי ממר. ובטח בינתים קבל כל מכתבי והפ"ש על ידי הנוסעים.

בהמשך לזה שמסרתי על ידי הנוסעים וענני על ידי הנוסעים, הנה ביקר אצלי בשבוע העבר מר אריק שי' שרון, ודברנו בארוכה בענין הנ"ל ובענין השטחים בכלל וכו', באריכות לפי ערך, אף שאינו בערך לגודל חשיבות הענין.

ונוסף על שבכלל קשה להעלות על הכתב כל האריכות, הרי בענינים אלו מוטב דיבור בע"פ מאשר כתיבה. ובאם יענין את [מר] לדעת הדברים, הרי בטח ימצא אופן המתאים לשמוע אותם מפיו של הנ"ל.

לא בקשתי את מר שרון בפירוש למסור למר את כל הנ"ל, כיון שאינני יודע אם רוצה מר להתערב בזה ואם זה מענינו וכו'. לכן לא הזכרתיו כלל בשיחתי האמורה, בכדי שתהי' בחירה חפשית לגמרי ביד מר בזה.
