To the attention of the distinguished and pleasant Chassid* who fears Hashem, elect of his people who surpasses them, seeks the welfare of his people, is of generous conduct, and comes from an illustrious family, Rav* Schneor Zalman(1) shlita*,

I greet and bless you,

As the auspicious day of the fifteenth of Av* and Shabbat Nachamu* approach, I always recall the moment and content of our meeting(2) and our conversation, as well as your particularly precious gift(3) — manuscript letters of our masters and leaders — which rests in a box that sits permanently on my desk.

I therefore cannot refrain from writing you these few lines, to reiterate my wishes that all the blessings bestowed upon you by our brethren, the children of Israel(4), may be fulfilled — among which are also mine — and that the deep and essential blessing of these days be realized: the fulfillment of the promise(5) "Comfort, comfort My people, says the Eternal," with the coming of our righteous Mashiach*, very soon.

As before, I enclose this time once more a Chassidic* discourse(6) that was published on the occasion of your visit here at that time. With regard to Torah* in particular, the Almighty has enjoined us: "every day it shall be new(7) in your eyes," as Rashi* explains — the traditional commentator of the Torah* in every generation — on the verses Devarim 11:13 and 26:16: not "as new,"(8) as appears in certain texts, using a particle of comparison, but truly new(7). With my respects, my consideration, and my blessing, and to give me good news of your communal, specific, and personal concerns,

עם בוא ימי הסגולה חמשה עשר באב ושבת נחמו נזכר אני תמיד בזמן ותוכן פגישתנו ושיחתנו ובמתנה הכי יקרה דאגרות כתי"ק רבותינו נשיאינו בארגז העומד על שלחני תמיד.

ואתאפק לא אוכל לכתוב למר שורות אחדות ולכפול ברכתי למילוי כל הברכות שברכו אותו כל אחינו בני ישראל, וברכותי אני בתוכם, ועד לקיום הברכה הפנימית והעקרית שבימינו אלו, קיום היעוד נחמו נחמו עמי יאמר אלקיכם, בביאת משיח צדקנו בקרוב ממש.

כאז גם עתה מצרף הנני בזה המאמר דא"ח שהו"ל בקשר עם בקורו של כ' אז כאן, והרי במיוחד בנוגע לתורה – נצטוינו מהכל יכול שבכל יום ויום יהיו בעיניך חדשים – כדיוק לשון רש"י מפרש התורה לדורו ולדורי דורות (דברים יא, יג; כו, טז), ולא כהסגנון בכמה מקומות "כחדשים" בכף הדמיון, כי אם חדשים .
