Igrot Kodesh · Letter 9556
Volume 25 · Letter 178 · 24 Elloul 5728 · To: Mitsvot
By the grace of Hashem,
24 Elul* 5728,
Brooklyn, New York,
I greet you and bless you,
I have duly received your letter, together with what was enclosed[1]. May Hashem positively fulfill your fervent wishes in all the areas you mention.
It is surely unnecessary to point out to you that your daily conduct must conform to the Torah, Torah of life, and to the Mitzvot*, of which it is said[2]: "One shall live by them." First and foremost, the essential point: such is the Will and the Request of Hashem. Moreover, it is the means of obtaining His blessings in all one's needs.
I am also replying to your question concerning your family situation. On this subject, one finds a very clear teaching in our holy Torah, Torah of life — a teaching for life. You must act with all the necessary energy, but, of course, in a modest manner, to find a match that suits you. The Torah affirms that this must be so in the most categorical way. It is therefore certain that this is for the good of all those concerned. In the present case, it is indeed your good and that of your daughter.
It is also quite obvious that it is not easy to find a good match. Nevertheless, it is regarding this that we have been enjoined[3]: "If you make efforts, you will find"[4]. When one acts with energy and in a good intention, Hashem provides help and one knows success. To someone like you, it is unnecessary to point out that adding to the fixed time for Torah study and for the practice of Mitzvot in the best manner multiplies Hashem's blessings.
In these propitious days of the month of Elul, days of mercy and good will[5], you have surely heard of the explanation of the Admor HaZaken*[6], author of the Tanya* and the Shulchan Aruch*, who cites, in relation to these days, the image of a king in the field, before entering the city. Each one can then go out and welcome him. The king receives each one with goodwill and shows a smiling face.
May therefore our Father and our King fulfill the requests and prayers of each of us, within all of Israel, for good and for blessing. With my blessing to be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually,
