By the grace of Hashem,
25 Adar Sheni 5711,
Brooklyn,
To the distinguished members and leaders of the kehilla* of Arizal* rite of Chicago, may Hashem grant them long life[1],
Greetings and blessings,
Through the intermediary of the Rav, distinguished chassid* of many capacities and many accomplishments, Rav Shlomo Zalman Hecht[2], I received your participation in maos chittin*[3]. Enclosed you will find a receipt.
I ask you to transmit the expression of my gratitude and my blessing to the donors and to the members of their families.
We find ourselves between Purim and Pesach*[4]. Our Sages, regarding these two festivals, speak of redemption. A difference exists, however, for that of Purim brought only the annulment of the decree[5]. But the Jews remained in galus*. That of Pesach*, on the other hand, accomplished a true liberation. This is why this festival is defined as "the time of our freedom."
The celebration of Pesach* begins with the following proclamation[6]: "Let whoever is hungry come and eat, let whoever is in need come and celebrate Pesach*." Thus, before even proceeding to the seder*, we commit ourselves to satisfying the needs of all those who experience them. It is only after that that the seder* begins.
It is in this way that we can have the merit of really knowing the time of our freedom. Such is what is accomplished with tzedakah* in general and maos chittin* in particular. By giving it, one brings to oneself much more than one brings to the other. Indeed, one frees oneself, in this way, from all material and spiritual worries. Each person in particular can then know "the time of our freedom." Very soon and in our days, we will indeed receive the collective redemption.
Hashem will make us all leave galus*, through our righteous Moshiach*, who will bring the true and complete geulah*.
With my blessing for a kosher and joyous Pesach*, as well as for all good, materially and spiritually,
