By the grace of Hashem,

Second day of Rosh Chodesh* Adar* 5729,

I bless you and greet you.

I have duly received your letter[1] and, since we have entered the month of Adar*, a favorable month for all of Israel[2], Hashem will cause everything to work out positively, that you may give me good news regarding the contents of your letter, and that you may fulfill the Commandment[3]: "From the beginning of Adar*, one increases one's joy."

The women and girls of Israel* receive a particular role during the days of Purim*, which are approaching. This can be deduced from the fact that the Megillah* does not bear the name of Mordechai, who was nevertheless one of the leaders and great men of Israel* at that time. It is not even defined as that of Mordechai and Esther together. It bears only the single name of Esther — Megillat Esther*[3]. With my blessing for success, to give me good news, and for a joyous Purim*,

והרי חשיבות מיוחדת לנשי ובנות ישראל בקשר עם ימי הפורים הבע"ל, כמו שמוכח מזה שהמגילה לא נקראת על שם מרדכי, אף שהי' מראשי וגדולי ישראל בימים ההם, וגם לא על שם מרדכי ואסתר ביחד, כי אם על שם אסתר בלבד – מגילת אסתר.
