To the Chabad* women of Montreal, may Hashem grant you long life,

I bless you and greet you.

I was pleased to receive news of your activity through the Rabbanit*, Madame Golda Shwei, as well as the Maot Chitim*[1] for which you will find the receipt enclosed. Success in the domain of Maot Chitim* is surely an indication of success in the other accomplishments of Chabad* women. May Hashem cause these to be strengthened and expanded. We all have the deep wish that Jews should be able to meet their own needs without having to resort to Maot Chitim*, but until that is the case, it is necessary to gather the amounts that will enable us to help as broadly as possible those who need it, both materially and spiritually.

The important role played by Jewish women is highlighted during the days of Purim*, particularly in the Megillah*, as was recalled at the Chassidic* gathering[2]. Esther conformed in every respect to the instructions of Mordechai — "the word of Mordechai, Esther carried out"[3]. Precisely for that reason, the Megillah* does not bear the name of Mordechai, nor even both names, but only that of Esther[4] — the Megillat Esther*[5]. With my blessing for success in an ever-increasing manner, as well as to give me good news,

ההצלחה בתחום של מעות חטים היא ודאי הוכחה להצלחה גם

בפעילויות האחרות של נשי חב״ד ,והשם יתברך יעזור שכל המטרות

תמשכנה במידה גדולה ורבה יותר .ואף שכולנו מאחלים את האיחול

הפנימי שכל היהודים יצליחו לפרנס את עצמם ולא יזדקקו למעות חטים

וכדומה ,אך עד שכך יהיה נחוץ ליצור את העזרה הגדולה ביותר עבור

הנזקקים ,הן בגשמיות והן ברוחניות.

ועד כמה חשובה מעורבותן של נשות ישראל ,מודגש בימי פורים

ובמיוחד במגילה ,וכנזכר גם בהתוועדות ,שאף שאסתר עשתה הכל לפי

הוראות מרדכי )ואת מאמר מרדכי אסתר עושה( ,ואכן גם בשל כך -

המגילה אינה נקראת על שם מרדכי ,גם לא על שם שניהם ,אלא דוקא על

שם אסתר בלבד -מגילת אסתר.
